We recommend replacing the full set of Weddell Duo filter cartridges every 5–6 months under standard water conditions for a single user. Actual replacement timing can vary based on the number of people using the shower, your water quality, and household usage patterns.
If you have hard water, well water, or heavily contaminated water, we recommend our 3+1 replacement cartridge set. This set includes extra white sediment filters so you can replace them more frequently without needing to replace the black filter every time.
Signs that it’s time to replace your filters include:
- Reduced water pressure – this is the most reliable indicator
- Discoloration of the white filter – this is normal and expected, but not always a reason to replace
- Reaching the rated filtration capacity (8,000 gallons)
For 3+1 users:
- Replace the white sediment filter as needed (based on pressure and discoloration)
- Replace the black filter every 3 white filter changes

Factors like hard or highly contaminated tap water, heavy sediment, or frequent use can cause your filters to slow down sooner than expected. This is because the filters are capturing more material than typical municipal water, and as it works harder to remove contaminants, the available space for water to pass through becomes filled. While the water flow may slow, this doesn’t mean the filters are defective—it means it’s doing its job effectively. The more contaminants and materials it captures, the sooner it will need to be replaced.

I rest assured knowing my family's shower water is being filtered adequately, and started using these shortly after the fires in LA in January 2025 (even though LA water is known to be heavily contaminated regardless!). My only gripe is that it's tricky to tell when the filters need replacement based off color alone (seems very subjective). I've not changed my first filter for about 5-6 months (oops...need to set a reminder to change it more often!) and compared to the newer filter in our other bathroom which has only been used 2 months, the colors are identical. Also, my water pressure hasn't changed as advertised, nor do I notice a difference in my hair or skin, so again - just need to be mindful about time passed and swap the filters out regularly. Otherwise, I trust it's doing its job and it's incredibly easy to install.

Great product, easy to install and works as advertised. We have very hard water and the filter makes a noticeable positive difference. The white side filter turns orange within a month or two and I can feel a difference on my skin when I rinse off.

I bought these filters because they are NSF certified & everyone (even in my far far away country) is raving about them. I had used shower filters all my life. However, it has been the first time I'm able to witness (due to one side of this filter clear compartment) how fast harmful substances are accumulated. I was aware that in my current city the quality of the water below average & contaminated with PFAS. Also, I know that I'm living in a house with very old pipes. But it wasn't until the Weddell Filter that I comprehended the seriousness of the matter. My white side filter turns brown, yes brown, in less than a week from installation. That got me really scared as skin is our largest organ. Since as of now I'm unable to move to a better house this filter has been a blessing. My strategy has been changing the white side at least every two weeks. This is substantially lowering all the toxins I was getting onto my skin & giving me some peace of mind until I can move out of here. The 1 gray side with 3 white sides bundle is my "not so expensive" approach. During the initial week when the white side has not been invaded with toxins my hair & skin look and feel luminous, soft, nourished & deeply hydrated. I truly recommend this filter; specially for using it for bathing babies & people with skin-related illnesses. Hopefully this brand keeps expanding their products and creates an "extra strength" filter with more capacity for situations of enormous amounts of toxins.
